During my second year at the National circus school of Montreal, I had the opportunity to participate in the creation of the show Avant Dimanche, directed by Nicolas Boivin-Gravel. He drew inspiration from various sources to create a rich and varied universe, where baroque coexist with disco and dubstep.
The creative process was extremely enjoyable: many ideas could be explored, and a large part of the work was based on research with different scenic elements, allowing us to integrate a variety of acrobatic movements.
We worked on a specific scene on a padded surface, which allowed us to explore movements we wouldn’t have attempted otherwise. This scene, called “Greco-Tender Wrestling”, was an acrobatic based duel featuring falls, lifts, and floating effects on a wall. The group moved the mats during our performance, adding extra effects.
The final tableau featured a high energy groop hoop diving act. I had never done anything so physically demanding, and the challenge was incredibly rewarding both artistically and physically.
